1. Registration Information Uses
The information collected from our registration process may be used as follows:

  • To enable us to process, validate and verify registrations.
  • To provide retailers, businesses and service providers with aggregate -- never individual -- information about our user base and usage patterns.
  • To give the VillageSoup? crew information that's useful for developing new features and services that meet user needs.
  • To allow us to potentially vary the advertising that users see on pages they select.
  • To allow us to provide individuals with home pages based on their personally requested information.

    2. Release and Use of Lists
We do not release users' names to any outside organizations, which means we do not sell our users list. We do, however, send users e-mail notifications of new site features and topic-based news and information alerts. Only those users who have signed up for these announcements during registration will receive them.

    3. A Special Note About Children
We are especially concerned about the security and safety of children; therefore, we ask that minors do not submit any personal information to us.

    4. Law enforcement
VillageSoup cooperates with all law enforcement inquires and with all third parties to enforce their intellectual property or other rights. It is our policy to provide local, state and federal law enforcement officials, at their request, with such information as you have posted on our site.

    5. Regulatory and legal requirements
Unfortunately, due to the existing regulatory environment, we cannot ensure that all of your private communications and other personally identifiable information will never be disclosed in ways not otherwise described in this Privacy Policy. By way of example (without limiting the foregoing), we may be forced to disclose information to the government or to third parties under certain circumstances. Further, we can, and you authorize us to, disclose any information about you to law enforcement or other government officials as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate. Therefore, although we use industry standard practices to protect your privacy, we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your personally identifiable information or private communications will remain private.

    6. Unauthorized disclosure
Though highly unlikely, third parties may unlawfully and without authorization intercept or access transmissions or private communications. Even though we use industry standard security technology and practices to protect your privacy, we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your personally identifiable information or private communications cannot, through some means, be intercepted illegally and without authorization.

    7. Control of Your Password
You may not disclose your password to any third parties or share it with any third parties. If, despite the foregoing, you lose control of your password, you may lose substantial control over your personally identifiable information and may be subject to legally binding actions taken on your behalf. Therefore, if your password has been compromised for any reason, you should immediately notify VillageSoup and request that your password be changed.

    8. Cookie Uses
We may collect non-personal information and data automatically through the standard operation of VillageSoup?'s Internet servers or through the use of "cookies." Cookies are small text files a web site can use to recognize repeat users, thus facilitating the user's ongoing access to and use of the site; and to allow a site to track usage behavior and compile aggregate data, thus allowing content improvements and targeted advertising. Cookies are not programs that come onto a user's system and damage files. Generally, cookies work by assigning a unique number to the user that has no meaning outside the assigning site. VillageSoup cannot control the use of cookies or the resulting information by advertisers or third parties hosting data for VillageSoup.com.

    9. Cancellation
Users may edit registration information or cancel registrations at any time. For changes to your registration information or to cancel your registration, please e-mail your request to crew@villagesoup.com.

    10. Contact
Finally, we reserve the right to contact any registered user at any time regarding site-usage problems or concerning changes to our Registration or User Policies.
